HitchHikers  - - - Michigan-Mini - 2010

Updated: 10/04/11

This photograph is of the entire group (Haulin' HitchHikers members and other HitchHiker owners) that attended the 2010 Michigan Mini (M&M). It can be downloaded for your enjoyment. It is a large file permitting printing if desired.

Greg wanted a photo op sitting on the tractor.

The members of the Haulin' HitchHikers in attendance at the M&M sat in the wagon.

We have posted this photograph for you to download and print for your enjoyment.

We were parked in two areas of the campground. Both areas were directly across the road from the gazebo we used the entire M&M.

Two of the ten HitchHikers at the Michigan Mini were brand new, straight from the factory. Both new units were delivered on the Monday prior to the campout. Both couples left Chanute, Kansas towing their new HitchHikers on Thursday heading for the M&M.

Roger and Barb's new HitchHiker is a Champaign Edition.

The other new HitchHiker at the M&M was ours. We purchased a HitchHiker LS.

We were at Leisure Lake Family Campground with Michigan Good Sam shortly before leaving for Kansas. The campground owner was kind enough to let us leave our golf cart and trailer at the campground so we did not have to tow it to Kansas and back.

Greg had posted on the forum that he and Judy would grill hamburgers for dinner Sunday to greet the attendees. He asked that we each bring a dish to pass. Harold (right) used his grill to help Greg.

The rest of us brought something to share.

Because we only know each other by our "Forum Name", it was a 'get acquainted' time.

At the hamburger dinner, Greg threw out some ideas for activities in camp and the surrounding area. A 'tentative' schedule was born.

Monday, it was brunch at a restaurant in Ithaca called the Hearthstone Oven. It is a Mennonite cafe that serves great food.

A weathervane across the street caught our attention.

Following brunch, we drove to Uncle John's Fruit Farm, south of Ithaca

Mary Lou had to play in the water.

It was a good thing we ate just before we arrived at the bakery building. Everything looked and smelled so good!

The wine tasting area was popular.

Ron unsuccessfully claimed to be
carrying wine for other people.

Games filled the remainder of the afternoon.

Breakfast on Tuesday was prepared by Judy - using an old family recipe for Muggles. (aka: Scrambled pancakes)

Muggles . . . The name has been used by Judy's family for generations.

Judy posted the recipe on the forum. I'm sure she won't mind if I post it here . . .

Mix your favorite pancake batter, we use Jiffy Mix.
In a large non stick frying pan put 1/16 inch to 1/8 inch of vegetable oil.
Dump the pancake mix into the hot frying pan, use a medium heat.
Stir the mixture like you would scrambled eggs, cook until done.
The oil will be soaked up by the pancake mixture as you cook and if you add more oil as the mixture is cooking the Muggles will become more crunchy, you just have to experiment to discover what you like best.

When done you can eat them with butter, syrup or whatever you put on pancakes.

A variety of syrups and other additives were available. And, a fruit tray was on the table also.

Tuesday was a 'free' day with some people playing games, others conversing with each other, working on their HitchHiker or touring the area.

As dinner time approached, Gary suggested pizza for dinner . . . the vote was a unanimous, YES.

After dinner, more games.

Bruce lit some firewood just about every night. Several of us joined him.

This beautiful sunset reflected nicely off the shiny sides of our new HitchHiker.

Greg likes sunsets as much as Fred does. Well, doesn't everyone!

  . . . and the moon rise . . .

Our potluck was held Wednesday because several people were leaving Thursday. There was a great selection of 'favorite' dishes to choose from.

One thing was confirmed during the Michigan Mini, HitchHiker owners eat well.

After the potluck, Greg called an impromptu meeting. As a result of that meeting, there will be a M&M II. Everyone is looking forward to time together next year. However, the attendees could be a gathering of different HitchHiker owners than this year.

While the organization of the 2010 Michigan Mini occurred by discussion on the forum, it did not come together without some effort. Our thanks to Greg and Judy, our 'organizers', for the time and effort that made it a success. And, we appreciated them for volunteering to plan the 2011 Michigan Mini.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the M&M 1. It was nice to have met 'forum friends' in person. Unfortunately, we were one of the couples that had to leave on Thursday.

Until the next M&M or other HitchHiker gathering, we will 'meet' on the forum.
