IA 2004 - Along the way ...
Updated: 11/09/08
This is our last views of the Mississippi River as we traveled into Iowa before we headed inland.
Many towns along the Mississippi River have protect themselves from flooding with dikes. This one has a walkway near the water level and on top of the dike. The view down to the pontoon boat give and idea if the height of the dike.
We saw a lot of corn fields on our way across Iowa.
Can you figure out why they are installing new utility poles?
We were caught by surprise at the first stop sign in Iowa. They had rumble strips at several locations on the road in advance of the stop sign. They gave you a rough ride - they got your attention.
We are going to take a couple liberties here. These photographs were made someplace in Illinois not Iowa - on our way to Fred and Becky's.
We saw this water tower under construction earlier but the photograph made at 60 mph did not turn out. Stopping at the next rest area we looked back and saw the water tower and this fall color.
Just for fun ... Fred's view from the driver's seat.
