Kennebunkport, Maine - 2018

Updated: 05/03/19

Our prior trips to Maine had not brought us to Kennebunkport. We'd heard it was a nice tourist town. So we packed up a cooler with snacks and soft drinks, prepared for a day of driving around. We carried our chairs but it was not a "sit outside by the water" kind of weather. We had no particular destination in mind, we just wanted to look around.

We passed this sign on our way into Kennebunkport. We did not stop to visit - it was closed when we left the area.

Kennebunkport . . .

Kennebunkport is a popular summer resort area. The area is a popular with the artists and writers. Foot traffic showed September was still a popular time for visitors.

Saint Ann's Episcopal Church . . .

The stone chapel has been in continuous use as a summer chapel since August, 1892. The chapel opens the middle of June and closes the last Sunday in September.

There were many spectacular viewing opportunities along the shore of Saint Ann's Church's property.

The Seaside Chapel overlooked the sea . . .

A bench for a relaxing at the shore . . .

Inside the church . . .

The church had beautiful stained glass windows everywhere you looked.

The Bush Estate . . .

Walker's Point is the summer home of former President Bush and his family. There is no parking allowed on Ocean Road near the house. Fred's camera did a great job of bringing the house into view.

The view from the home must be absolutely beautiful, look at the water and rock surrounding it.

After we'd passed a lot of these locations, we passed this sign post just outside town.

Cape Porpoise  . . .

Goat Island Lighthouse guards the entrance to Cape Porpoise Harbor.

We drove out Pier Road. At the end we found a working fishing pier, a nice park with a beautiful view and a place for a delicious bowl of clam chowder.

A great lunch at Cape Point Chowder House . . .

The view out the window next to our table . . .

There is no shortage of companies willing to ship your lobster home for yourself or as a gift.

We found our way to Kennebunk Beach. We drove along Beach Avenue, stopping often to watch the activity. It was a cool day, but lots of people were out and about. The beautiful homes, "old  ladies", along the route were well maintained.

  The surfers were out . . .
