Flight 93 National Memorial - Shanksville, PA - 2018

Updated: 05/04/19

The Flight 93 National Memorial is our nation's memorial to the passengers and crew of Flight 93 who crashed their plane in this field in Pennsylvania.

We visited the Visitor Center, Memorial Grove, Memorial Plaza, Wall of Names, Debris Field, crash site Bolder and Tower of Voices.

When the terrorist-hijackers took over the plane, passengers and crew began phoning family, friends, and authorities to report the hijacking. They were told of the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks. It was obvious that their plane was part of the attack on our nation. Passengers and crew then made a collective decision to rush the terrorists and try to retake the plane.

The displays in the Visitor Center Complex, on the hill above the crash site, tell the detailed story of Flight 93. The Visitor Center building holds exhibits, a viewing window, and a bookstore.

The Tower of Voices serves as a visual and audible reminder of the heroism of the forty passengers and crew. The tower is a ninety-three feet tall musical instrument holding forty wind chimes. At our visit, only the frame was complete, some of the chimes were installed but not operational.
