Cruise 2011- Day 4

Cozumel, Mexico

Updated: 02/13/11

Good morning! The view from our balcony when we got up.

Fred made these photographs of our arrival in Cozumel from Deck 14.

Mass exodus from the two ships caused a pedestrian traffic jam.

This guy insisted we make a photograph of him with the girls.

With 3,243 guests plus the crew, the ship must carry a lot of fresh water. The blue hose was used to load fresh water on the ship.

This is one big rope . . .

Beautiful blue water . . .

In this port, we walked off the docked ship, then caught a taxi to our "beach day".

Because the people in charge of crowd directions were not prepared, there was a lot of 'heated' conversation between people who had been in line for a taxi and those who didn't know where the line began. Finally, the ropes were put in place and it was clear how the line snaked around.

We arrived at our destination - a private beach.

A gated entrance opened to the rough road to the beach. It looks like Michelle found a real nice private beach.

We just had to purchase a photograph of us in these stylish sombreros.

We were escorted to our palapas (a grass hut or tiki hut). It was a private beach that only accepted 100 people for the entire day.

Oh! Did we mention that the fee included drinks all day and a three course lunch from their menu.

Ashlyn and Lily learned quickly to relax.

However, they had decisions to make all day.
- relax in the hammocks with a 'kids' drink
- play in the sand
- swim in the fresh water pool
- swim in the salt water of Caribbean Sea
- eat food from the menu
- all of the above

Mary Lou refused to go in deeper for a better photograph.

A blue streak in the water . . .

The beach was very quiet. All of a sudden the gal in the two-piece suit dumped a bucket of sand on the gal in the black suit. They wrestled toward the water for a dunking. She must have 'won' the dunking.

A volley ball net was available for the beach guests.

Ah, the decisions . . .

. . . which are the better shells?

. . . fresh water pool

. . . Atlantic Ocean salt water

. . . non-alcoholic 'kid' beverages

You could eat in the large palapa.

We called for our taxi to return to the city.

The taxi arrived quickly for our 10 minute ride. Towards the end of the day, taxis are stationed near the beaches for prompt pick up of passengers. The driver told us there were 700 taxis in Cozumel. All were owned by the same company.

Another option was renting a scooter. That did not appear the safe option.

The cruise ships dominated the view.

Vendor huts offered a wide variety souvenirs for sale.

Our home 'away' from home was floating in the blue water waiting for our return.

Michelle and her family stayed at the beach when we headed back to the ship. That meant we were alone at our table for dinner. The waiter said the lobsters were quite small. Then, asked . . . do you want two? Why, of course we did.

This photo was made by the ship's photographer.

We made these photographs from our dining table.

As night arrived in Cozumel, we departed.

Another cruise ship in port looked neat at night.

Mary Lou and I walked Deck 4 after dinner.

Walking outside on Deck 4, we passed our empty dining table.

The pool deck was almost deserted.

Tonight our pet was a monkey swinging on a clothes hanger.

The squeals next  doors were repeating. The girls will remember the folded towels as part of their cruise experience.

Tonight's program provided great singing and dancing.

This production featured a guest dance team - Olesya Ilyukia & Dmitry Demidov.
