Cruise 2011 - Day 2

Cruising towards Grand Cayman

Updated: 02/11/11

Day 2 was all cruise day. It gave us time to explore the ship and take in some of the scheduled activities.

We started the day enjoying the view out our doorwall and from our balcony.

The ship cruised at 18 knots (21 MPH). You heard it cutting the waves from our Deck 9.

This is the life - reading to the sounds of the ocean.

We had breakfast in the Nutcracker Dining Room on Deck 3. Breakfast and lunch were not assigned tables. It was enjoyable to visit with guests from all over the country. In most cases, they had taken multiple cruses.

Layouts of the ship were almost everywhere - especially, near elevators and dining rooms. They expected and we cooperated in getting turned around frequently.

A visit to the pool area was warm and muggy but the breeze made it feel comfortable. There were two different pool experiences. One was for adults only - the Solarium - a quiet, relaxing experience.

This is how you sit in the sun . . . if you don't like the sun.

The other pool was the main pool area for families. Lots of activities took place around this pool. Lily enjoyed swimming across the pool. She didn't mind that it was salt water.

We chose to have lunch in the Windjammer Cafe. It was designed for casual dining. The food was arranged in stations allowing a wide variety of choices for your meal. Two stations provided carved beef, ham, brisket, pork or other meat. One station was all desserts.

After lunch we visited the pool area - a very busy place.

The Day 2 schedule called for two popular events.

The Miss Biceps Competition . . .

And, the Men's International Belly Flop Competition . . .

During the excitement of the 'bicep' event held on the pool deck, Fred, Steve and Michelle found 'higher ground' to capture the event. Ashlyn, Lily and Mary Lou found us.

When the 'belly flop' competition was moved to a different pool edge than expected, our spot was not good.

We move to a new location on the same level.

Ashlyn took her camera to pool side and made great photographs of the event.

The Ice Dancin' show was great.

A hockey game with a 'live' pock . . .

The Hula Hoop girl - was fantastic. She, Larissa Sherman, was a special performer from Las Vegas.

Time out to enjoy our balcony before dressing for dinner.

Tonight was the formal 'highly recommended' dinner. Most people followed the recommendation and 'dressed up' for dinner.

Our waiter was from Turkey. He tried his best to get Lily to warm up to him. No matter what he did or said, she would ignore him.

Later in the cruise, she didn't act so shy and warmed up to him a little.

Back on the Royal Promenade, Fred noticed the 'Chrysler' Pentastar in the ceiling.

The evening's entertainment . . .A high energy performance featuring music from The Producers, Fosse and Mamma Mia.

This couple was on the cruise celebrating their 69th wedding anniversary.

More about them later . . .

On the way back to our stateroom, we stopped by the 24-hour Cafe Promenade for a snack.

Across the aisle was a group of sketches including one we recognized.

Aisha, our stateroom attendant, had folded a bath towel into an elephant.

We could tell by the squeals coming from next door that the girls had a new pet also. Aisha was so happy to hear the girl's excitement, she was dancing in the hallway.

Sitting on our balcony, using a lot of zoom on the camera, we could see another cruiseship in the distance.
