Caitlin's Graduation Party - 2019

Updated: 07/18/19

Our 2019 Family reunion weekend included ALL of the above events. It was a busy weekend but truly a family weekend as we all gathered for Caitlin's high school graduation party. This is the second time we have had an abbreviated family reunion in order to include other activities. The first was for Melanie and Scott's wedding in 2011. We will probably have abbreviated family reunions for the next three years due to high schools graduations for Ashlyn, Nick and Lily. Wyatt's turn doesn't come up until 2031.

Family Reunion - 2019

That is not a hat on Fred, it is three balloons.
                   Our three . . .                                     Our three + three . . .

         Fred's family . . .                                Michelle's family . . .                                 Melanie's family . . .

Our five grandchildren - Ashlyn, Lily, Wyatt, Caitlin, Nick.

Sunday morning, our family chatted around a table for a while.

Ashlyn, Caitlin and Lily worked on a surprise Father's Day cake.

                       Lego time . . .

Caitlin opened her graduation cards . . .

Since we had the new building to hang out in, that was the place to be.

Sunday the area received 4.7" of rain - it poured most of the day. Fred
was so glad that the party was held on Saturday. We can attest that
the building doesn't leak.

Only a six year old could enjoy a 4.7" rain day. He decided that a bag from a bag chair makes a good rain hat.

Rainwater rushed out of the downspouts and down the washed out ruts made by the flowing water.

Water, water everywhere!

Dinner at the Golf Club . . .

The building is the correct size for card playing or playing a game of corn hole.

Farewell breakfast . . . Monday morning before the Michigan families headed north, breakfast in town.

The breakfast 'officially' ended the 2019 Family Reunion.

Father's Day

Just before Sunday drew to a close, time was set aside for a Father's Day celebration. The cake put a sweet end to the day.

The cake needed an escort to avoid the icing washing off.

Each figure on the cake was "dressed" in personality appropriate attire - Grandpa in a flannel shirt, Fred in a cowboy hat, Steve in a MSU shirt and Scott lined up his "putt" in a golf shirt. The shirts were "painted on" with colored frosting!

A successful celebration was enjoyed by all.

Now, a flashback to Caitlin's High School graduation ceremony in May, 2019 . . .

Caitlin's Graduation Party

Now, flash forward to June for Caitlin's party . . .

Fred's goal to have the game room completed prior to the party was a monstrous task. Not enough hours in the day! Even though the building was not totally finished inside, it provided a great location for Caitlin's party.

Her corner . . .

Get ready Indiana University, she is headed your way.

Room for a dining area and an indoor corn hole game.

The food was set up in the game room . . .

The caterer set up the main course.           Aunt Kathy and Mary Lou provided the veggie and fruit trays.

Desserts were a combination of creations by friends and from the caterer.

To our surprise 'Uncle' Bruce and 'Aunt' Kathy traveled to Indiana two days early so they could help prepare for Caitlin's graduation party. We expected that they would drive down for the party but to volunteer to come down early to help with party prep was above and beyond. (For those who know we are both only children, how did our children end up with an uncle and aunt? Bruce and Fred have known each other since high school - the four of us have been hanging around together ever since. Bruce and Kathy have been involved in our children's lives and activities since they were born.)

Caitlin appreciated having school friends and families, some teachers, volleyball teammates, coaches, plus others including family and family friends attend her party. Everyone seemed to have a good time.
